MSU AD Dan Bartholomae Lays Out Roster Funding and Revenue Priorities

Spartans Illustrated

Michigan State AD Dan Bartholomae has prioritized roster funding and revenue generation as he takes the helm of a department navigating large-scale financial projects, including the $500M reconstruction of Spartan Stadium’s east side. Bartholomae says the stadium modernization remains on schedule, with major demolition slated for November 2027 and completion expected ahead of the 2029 season, as the university finalizes premium inventory commitments. MSU is also evaluating the Spartan Stadium District, a proposed public-private mixed-use real estate development featuring hotels, housing, and retail surrounding the campus athletic core. Meanwhile, Bartholomae notes that all 23 varsity programs will receive dedicated support as the department scales its NIL and overall revenue capabilities to meet the financial realities of modern college sports, adding: “My primary goal has been to put ourselves financially, whether it’s through fundraising or other means, in a position to have really competitive rosters. … We want to be great in everything. Those programs aren’t second class, so we’re not going to treat them that way.”
