Kansas State Will Borrow to Pay Jerome Tang’s $12M Termination Settlement

1350 KMAN / The Mercury and ESPN

Kansas State AD Gene Taylor confirmed to The Mercury on Monday that the department will take out a traditional bank loan to pay former Men’s Basketball HC Jerome Tang the $12M termination settlement the two parties agreed to. Per his contract, Tang was owed $18.7M. Taylor noted that “if we had to come up with that out of cash, it would’ve hurt us,” and added that asking donors to cover the buyout was not ideal “because of everything else we’re asking from them.”

Board of Trustees Support for Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek Is “Dwindling”

Best of Arkansas Sports — Andrew Hutchinson

Support for Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek among the UA Board of Trustees is “dwindling,” according to Best of Arkansas Sports’ Andrew Hutchinson, who explains: “Last year, we reported that the trustees were mostly split on him, but that has since shifted to 7-3 in favor of a change. Sources have indicated that the three holdouts still in Yurachek’s camp are Randy Lawson, Ed Fryar and Ted Dickey. Lawson (Bentonville) and Fryar (Rogers) are based in Northwest Arkansas, while Dickey is from Stuttgart and has worked extensively in Little Rock. Lawson, who serves as the board’s chairman, was appointed to the board last March to fill the seat formerly held by Tommy Boyer, who died on Feb. 19, 2025. Jeremy Wilson of Bentonville was believed to be among that group previously, but has since flipped, according to one source. It is unclear why.”
